Fake Laid-Back

Temperature inside my house as I type this.

I don't know how many of you I've actually met in person [probably 100% (hi mom!)...ha, this isn't Pioneer Woman!]. So you all probably have sometime experienced what I am about to describe.

Here's the deal: the vibe I try to effuse (is that the right way to use that word?) whenever possible is that of a laid-back person. Like, I try so hard.

I like laid-back people. How things don't ruffle their feathers. How their schedules are flexible and full, all the same wonderful time. They roll along, with a smile on their face, unfazed by everything.

So...I work really really hard to be this way a lot of the time--but it just doesn't seem to "take." Despite my best efforts, I can just get so worked up over things.

I'm starting to think you're either born with it or you're not. [Alas, my parents seem to have given all of their laid-back genes to my Sister and Brother.]

Our air went out a week ago Tuesday. We haven't been able to stay here much (save three nights when it was blissfully cool)...too hot. And I've been pretty annoyed.

But now, as I type...the air guys are here making the necessary repairs, Mother Nature is watering my new grass for the first time (no rain for weeks!!!), husband is studying his little heart out, and I am about to go on another date with those delightful Gilmore Girls.

It's all okay. And Autumn is a'comin. And we have a cat.

The end.

  1. Well, I really like people that aren't laid back, so we are good for each other =)

Glad you are going to be back in the AC club. Love you.

  2. Sorry about the AC, but love the Gilmore Girls shout out.

  3. I think you may be right about being born with the laid-back temperament. Like you, I've been trying for years to make it take and have yet to reach full success...thank goodness for Gilmore Girls.

  4. im laid-back... TO A FAULT. like, sometimes i wish i could care enough about something to get worked up. i wish i could make a schedule. i wish i could be organized. you got a good thing going on, not being laid back! oh well, i guess the grass is always greener....

  5. Girl, I replaced THREE air conditioners at my house this year. I know a hot house. We got so depressed over it that we booked a trip to Disneyworld to cheer ourselves up (don't mention that around our kids...we'll tell them when we get to the aiport...it's not a secret because I'm laid-back, though. because I don't want to say "we aren't going today" 8000 times). I'd also love to tell you that the studying will get better...but it won't for 2 years. Let's go to lunch sometime. Hang in there.

  6. I will share my laid back genes with you if you need some? I want another date with roon

  7. Not being laid back and being organized are not necessarily the same thing. In fact, I am a living case study that you can be both. Let it be noted.

  8. Both not laid-back AND not organized, I mean. sorry.

  9. i am neither laid back nor particularly organized either, my friend! and it is stressful. one would think the two would be mutually exclusive ;)

is there some sort of support group for this?
