I Still Wear Slips

Are you shocked?

[here]

Maybe you're not.

[and I sure hope this post doesn't embarrass any of the possible male readers I have left.]

My mom used to give me a new slip in my Easter basket every year... and the habit has stuck.

Friends, co-workers (especially BR coworkers), roommates are and have been shocked to learn there are still girls who always wear a slip.

I really cannot wear a skirt or a dress without one.

To further cement this habit, I worked at that Banana Republic store too long...when someone walked in from outside on a sunny day, wearing a dress and no slip... this only strengthened my resolve.

[it's only fitting that I'm listening to Hymns by Johnny Cash as I write this.]

Am I alone out there? Do you think I'm an old-fashioned granny?

(or just really inappropriate to bring this up?)

*clarification: this is not something I feel needs to be imposed on others. This is an as-for-me-and-my-house-type thing.

  1. I totally rock the slip!!! Primarily when something is somewhat see-through or if I am wearing tights that make my skirt stick to my legs and ride up.

  3. Oui, I remember this about you. I don't really wear them, and I probably should. I'll be more mindful about it going forward. Merci!

  5. I do too, for the same reasons mentioned above. For keeping things PG and having things sit appropriately. And I don't think I am a granny, I think that I am an adult.

  7. Maybe it's a St. Mary's thing. Kate never goes without one either and we've had the same conversation at the office. :) Personally, I'm with Oprah on the subject...They're just legs.

  10. Absolutely--to combat see-through-ness and static cling. As another commentor said, though, mine could use refreshing. Recommendations?

  11. I LOVE slips. And I can spot someone without one a mile away. And I want to tell them, "WEAR A SLIP! YOUR SKIRT/DRESS IS ABOUT TO DISAPPEAR INTO YOUR CROTCH, IT'S RIDING UP SO FAR," or, "NOBODY WANTS TO SEE VICTORIA'S SECRET SPLASHED ALL OVER YOUR NEON PANTIES YOU WORE WITH A WHITE SKIRT." OK, thanks for posting this. It reminded me I need new slips and I'm going to get some on my lunch hour.

  12. I ALWAYS wear a slip with my dresses or skirts! You are not alone! And definitely not a granny! :)

  13. Peeps needing a new slip:

I say stick to big department stores. Avoid Target and Wal-Mart. If they're too shiny and stretchy, they don't work as well.
